It’s happened again. I’ve got plenty on my To-Do list, extras even. But instead of moving through my list I find myself feeling stuck.

The feeling is familiar; it’s the heavy sensation in my arms and legs, the way my thoughts fly from one thing to the next, unsure where to land. I even know it’s coming when I find myself looking for something — an incoming email, a forgotten note — anything to point me in the right direction.

Sound familiar?

As busy business owners we just don’t have time to get caught in the muck of being stuck. We need to move forward, and fast. But how?

How do I get unstuck?

I see two paths when I’m feeling stuck: I can either take action or take care.

The first important step in getting unstuck is to tap into what exactly is making me feel stuck. This means getting really quiet, taking some deep breathes, and connecting with myself. I’m looking for what is missing, what doesn’t feel quite right, and what I’m feeling deep down inside.

When I take the time to really check in with myself I typically come up with two sources of my stuck feeling — either I’m feeling overwhelmed by how much I have to do, or I’m feeling depleted and empty inside. Once I know the source I know what to do to start moving forward again.

Feeling Overwhelmed? Take Action!

If I’m feeling overwhelmed by all the things I need to do then it is time to take action. This means I need to make a short and achievable To Do list to get me moving and feeling accomplished. My list might include things like: rinse the breakfast dishes and put them into the dishwasher, take out the trash, and put a load of laundry into the washer. By accomplishing a few concrete tasks my mind is calmed and the completed tasks help increase my motivation. It helps me do something, and once that happens it is so much easier to just keep moving forward.

Feeling Depleted? Take Care!

What if I’m stuck because I need to fill my well? because I’m feeling a bit empty inside and depleted? Then, it’s time to take care. This looks like taking a short walk outside, reading a chapter of a novel, taking out my art supplies and playing with some paint, or taking a nice warm bath. Sometimes, if I’m just plain old tired it means giving myself permission to lie down and rest.

The important thing is that I listen closely to what I need, chose a path to take and move forward. Before I know it, the stuck feeling is gone and I’m back in action.

Next time you are feeling stuck remember there are two paths — take action or take care. Take the time to listen to what you truly need and you will know which path to take.

Do these comments sound familiar? “Now where did I put those papers?” “I wish I was more organized,” “It was right here a second ago.”

Being organized is what most of us desire, but for some this isn’t an easy task. One simplified definition of organization suggests that you can find what you want, when you want it, with little effort. Successful organizing is dependent upon what works best for you so there is no right or wrong way to organize. Working in your office can be more productive if you set up the right systems and processes for your personality. Having an organized desk is a goal that I often hear from business clients. Here are four easy steps to get you started:

Remove unused and personal objects from your desk. It’s OK to have a picture or two of your family, but any more than that becomes clutter unless it’s an item that really inspires you on a daily basis. Collections are best left at home where they won’t be a distraction or become dust collectors. One pencil cup, a stapler, and some paper clips are usually sufficient for your desktop. Extras can be stored in a drawer or supply closet.

Keep a wastebasket and recycling bin near your desk. When these bins are nearby, you will be more likely to recycle and toss unneeded items.

Give each current project its own file folder. Rather than stacking piles on your desk, put the papers into labeled folders. Place labeled folders into a desktop organizer for a quick find.

Clear off your desk before you leave for the day. Put away files in your labeled folders, write up your to-do list for tomorrow, and straighten any piles that are left. Having a clutter-free desk makes it easier to focus on the task at hand and will be a welcome sight when you arrive in the morning.

Having an organized desk means something different to each person. Think about what would make you happy and enable you to function more productively throughout the day. The concept of organization can be learned as long as you are open to new ideas and to forming new habits. Start today with these steps to achieve your goal of an organized desk.

Do you watch what you eat? Why? What are your major concerns about this? If I were to tell you that what you put on your skin is as important as what you put in your mouth, would you believe me?

For many years, we believed that when we put something on our skin, it just stayed there. “Skin care” became a superficial thing for women. Look at all the counters in the front of department stores!

The skin is a living, dynamic and unpredictable organ – the largest one we have. It has three main functions: it takes in oxygen, moisture and nutrients, it breathes and sweats out toxins and waste…and it holds the internal organs and the body all together. We are blessed to have skin to cover our amazing bodies!

Skin has 3 layers: epidermis – the outer layer, dermis – the middle layer and the subcutaneous innermost layer. Besides these three layers, we have what is called an Acid Mantle. It is a mixture of secretions of the skin, mainly sweat and sebum. This Acid Mantle is acidic like the skin and it protects us from bacteria. The bacteria are killed by the acid and are unable to damage the skin. Just picture the bacteria as ugly little pac men moving around on your skin. If our skin is healthy and the Acid Mantle isn’t damaged, POOF! those pac men are gone. But if the acid mantle is damaged, the bacteria can attack the skin and even get through to the epidermis.

Have you heard the term pH? pH measures the acidity or alkalinity of our skin! The pH scale runs 0 to 14. Acids have a pH below 7 and alkalis have a pH greater than 7 up to 14. When you look at this scale, 7 is balanced – water is neutral with a pH of 7. It is “pH balanced”. However, normal skin pH is about 4 to 5.5 – slightly acidic. Aha – so we don’t want pH balanced products – the term we so often hear – we want pH correct ones.

You may ask what disturbs the acid mantle or the pH level. Many products are alkaline in nature including soaps, household cleansers and many personal care products. They can damage the acid mantle. Once it is damaged, it can take 3 to 4 hours to regenerate. According to the CDC, it takes about 26-28 seconds for ingredients in products to reach most major organs of the body when applied to the skin. If products are what we call “pH balanced” or alkaline and they contain toxic ingredients, might it be easy to catch sicknesses or disease?

Acne, rosacea, age spots and even premature aging can all be signs of toxic overload. Let’s make skin care more important to us knowing that toxins can get into our bodies along with those bad bacteria. Taking care of our skin might be able to help protect us from much more serious “health” issues. There is no doubt today, that toxins are constantly being mentioned in regards to many diseases we are fighting.

In 2003, the European Union banned at least 1,100 cosmetic chemicals that are suspected of causing cancer, genetic mutation or birth defects. The US banned about 8 of them. We have to do our own research and find products that truly care for and nourish our skin! This is a basic level where we can take responsibility for our own health. Here’s to yours!!!

Do you ever feel as if you are tethered to an anchor due to your clutter and disorganization? Did you know that clutter and disorganization can shackle you, hold you back and drag you down in your home and your life?

Clutter is an undetected energy in your home of which you are not even aware of. Does your environment feel stuck, stagnant and stale? Does it lack movement, energy and flow? Are you stressed, frustrated and tired all the time?

If you answered yes to these questions, you are now aware of the negative force clutter has on you and your environment. Allow me to use this metaphor. When you enter a room with clutter, there is an imaginary umbilical cord fused between you and the clutter. The clutter will slowly drain and zap your energy due to the stronger force and pull it has on you. What needs to occur is, the umbilical cord needs cut and the clutter cleared, thus resulting in your life and energy restored to you. You are now free to live in a clean, stress-free, peaceful, de-cluttered environment. Wouldn’t you love for your home to feel this way?

Living in a de-cluttered, organized home allows you freedom to relax, enjoy your family, work efficiently, and manage your time wisely. The family and environment flow smoothly and efficiently eliminating chaos, confusion and disorder. All areas of your life are affected by being organized. Spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially you are stable, well balanced, happy and healthy. Your mind, heart and emotions are clutter free as well.

Every day clear the area where you were sitting or working.

Throw away or file papers immediately so they do not accumulate.

At night time take 15 minutes to clean up the day’s items that are misplaced.

Show your children how to de-clutter and be organized. Start them young.

Designate a spot for incoming mail and papers. Toss out the junk immediately.

De-clutter your calendar.

Create a “maybe” box if you are not surewhat to do with something.

De-clutter for about 15 minutes per day. Clean out the medicine cabinet.

Learn to love the uncluttered look; it is okay to have empty space.

De-clutter your mind, heart and emotions. Meditate daily.

Do you suffer from allergies and/or asthma? Are you sneezing, experiencing a runny nose, watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, and feeling like you are sick, but you are not? Join the more than 40 million Americans who are searching for ways to feel better.

There have been over 6 articles about allergies in the Marysville Journal Tribune and the Columbus Dispatch in as many days. Allergens are making almost as much news as the NCAA basketball tournament. Just as March Madness teams need to know the basic fundamentals of basketball, it is important for those suffering from allergies and/or asthma to be aware of their triggers in the air. Mold, pollens, dust mites, pet dander, smoke, pollution and strong odors can all contribute as irritants to the susceptible person. These can occur indoors as well as outdoors.

OSU basketball players, such as Sullinger, Craft, Smith, Buford, and Thomas use a variety of shots to score a basket. So too doctors and parents caring for their children or even themselves are searching for ways to feel good. Obviously avoiding the irritant is the best shot, so to speak. But since that doesn’t always work, drugs, drops, and sprays are prescribed to clear up allergy symptoms.

The OSU team spends many hours in practice analyzing skills to conquer the next team they are scheduled to play. The team has been performing some of these skills the entire season. The same holds true for allergy and asthma sufferers. Their season can be just spring or fall, some summer, and others are uncomfortable all four seasons. Doctors have some individuals on medications all year long.

There are no short cuts for improving the health of an allergy/asthma sufferer. Just as the basketball team must continually work on defense, so too do doctors remind parents to keep up with extra dusting, wash bedding more often, move the family pet out of bedrooms, vacuum more, as well as remove chemicals and other toxins and odor-causing substances from living areas. It’s a team effort to clean the air that is being breathed in by allergy and asthma victims.

Time outs allow the team to regroup and move forward with a better plan of action. Since the warm weather arrived early there are pollens from trees, grasses, and flowers that are blooming at different times, requiring doctors to treat their patients according to contact with different triggers.

Being in the stadium during an NCAA game is exciting. There are all types of fans attending. This reminds us that all those allergy and asthma triggers are spending time in your home or stadium. There is little control of all those substances in one place. There is no escape; the irritants just keep accumulating. For a basketball game, we want a crowd. The more the merrier. But the for allergy sufferers in their home we want these pollens and other irritants ejected from the game.

The bottom line is that the NCAA Basketball tournament and Fresh Air Purifiers have one thing in common. They both eliminate things. March Madness eliminates all but the National Champion, and the Fresh Air Purifiers eliminate all but the clean air you breathe, creating a winning environment for the allergy/asthma sufferer.
